Studies with Staphylococcus Bacteriophage I. The Preparation of Polyvalent Staphylococcus Bacteriophage *
نویسنده
چکیده
The preparation of staphylococcus bacteriophage for investigative purposes and for clinical use is being carried out in many research and commercial laboratories. The reports from these various sources regarding the results obtained with such preparations are far from uniform. Among the reasons for such discordant results is the fact that a method leading to the preparation of a potent bacteriophage is not generally followed. Thus, when the result of therapeutic application is disappointing, the basic principle is assumed to be faulty. In reality in many cases what is supposed to be bacteriophage is a preparation no more effective than nutrient broth as far as lytic action is concerned. This fact may account for some of the differences in the results reported by clinicians. The problem of bacteriophagy and especially the-preparation of staphylococcus bacteriophage is not a simple one; it is as important to study the organism as it is the action of the bacteriophage. Furthermore, all strains of bacteria are not suitable for the production of bacteriophage for clinical use. In view of the importance of making use, in clinical studies, of potent preparations, it is deemed advisable to report the method of preparing staphylococcus bacteriophage in this laboratory, and some of the phenomena observed in its preparation. This method is, in general, the one which is employed in Le Laboratoire du Bacteriophage by d'Herelle and his assistants Sertic and Bulgakov.

The Preparation of a Polyvalent Dysentery Bacteriophage in a Dry and Stable Form: I. Preliminary Investigations and General Procedures.
The purpose of the present work was to investigate the conditions for the production of a polyvalent dysentery bacteriophage in addition to its concentration and conversion to a dry stable form. Throughout this study, emphasis was placed upon those procedures readily adapted to large scale operation. Polyvalent bacteriophage preparations for therapeutic use in dysentery and cholera have been de...

Introduction: Bacteriophages are viruses that infect and destroy prokaryote cells, specifically the bacteria. They act too selective, so as each bacteriophage affects only on specific type of bacteria. Due to their specific features, bacteriophages can be used as an appropriate substitute for antibiotics in infectious diseases treatment. Therefore, this study aimed to isolate E. coli-specific b...

In the present study, the therapeutic potential of bacteriophages virulent to Staphylococcus aureus associated with goat mastitis were isolated, identified and assessed. Staphylococcus aureus (host or indicator bacterium) was isolated from a goat suffering from clinical mastitis. Based on cultural, morphological, biochemical tests and amplification of S. aureus specific thermonuclease gene inPC...
متن کاملStudies on the Interactions between Components of Staphylococcus Aureus and Staphylococcus Bacteriophage
The cell walls of Staphylococcus aureus are capable of inactivating S. aureus bacteriophage. Furthermore, the cell walls isolated from S. aureus of a given phage type inactivate a variety of different staphylococcal bacteriophages. Under the conditions employed neither the isolated mucopeptide nor teichoic acid components of the cell walls act as bacteriophage receptor.

AIMS To evaluate differences in biofilm or planktonic bacteria susceptibility to be killed by the polyvalent antistaphylococcus bacteriophage K. METHODS AND RESULTS In this study, the ability of phage K to infect and kill several clinical isolates of Staphylococcus epidermidis was tested. Strains were grown in suspension or as biofilms to compare the susceptibility of both phenotypes to the p...
